Alexander Stops Vinton County in Three Sets
< < Back toThe Alexander Spartans defeated the Vinton County Vikings in three sets on Tuesday night. While the Lady Vikings put up a hard fight, it just wasn’t enough to hold off Alexander’s unstoppable front row.
At the beginning of the season, the Spartans knew that the road ahead could be challenging. There’s a sizable age gap within the team, so head coach, Nikki Ohms, made it a goal to strengthen the team’s bond:
“We’ve really worked to get the girls to know each other, to trust each other, and that’s translated very well to the court,” Ohms said.
Alexander came into this game hoping to bounce back from their first loss of the season against Logan on Monday, September 11th. Spartan freshman, Karsyn Raines, got the team off to a strong start, playing front row, with countless attacks at the net.
Vinton County was able to stay competitive in the first set while the Spartans faced some communication issues. Alexander took the first set with a final score of 25 to 16. The second set was quite similar to the first, with the Spartans adding on another victory 25 to 14.
Alexander dominated the third set while the Vikings struggled to get to the ball in time. The Viking’s lack of movement on the court contributed to the large gap between the teams. Alexander came away victorious in the third with a final score of 25 to 9.
