Lady Golden Rockets top Trimble for First Win
< < Back toThe Trimble Lady Tomcats fell to the Wellston Golden Rockets 57-33 at Wellston High School on Thursday.
The Tomcats were at a slight disadvantage as their team consisted of only seven girls which made substitutions difficult and exhaustion easy.
Coach Richards said the team only had eight players last year and the numbers just keep dropping. These low numbers led Trimble to come up short on the points needed to overcome the Wellston Lady Golden Rockets.
The lack of strength within their offense and defense made it nearly impossible for the Tomcats to score, as they were unable to put points on the board until after six minutes of the first quarter were up.
Even then, points were only coming from free throws for the Lady Tomcats.
“We just have to continue to practice harder and get better,” Coach Richards said. “And better is all we hope for.”
Within the second half of the game, the Tomcats we able to raise their own score to two times that of the first quarter. Trimble had great teamwork as each player worked to raise the score point by point. However, their hard work just was not enough, as Wellston came with a strong offense and an even stronger defense.
Wellston came into the game fighting, and when the buzzer sounded for the second half, they returned to the game to score within the first nine seconds bringing the score up 42-25 with Wellston in the lead.
The Golden Rockets continued to dominate, as they extended their lead with continuous rebounds and three-pointers.
Sydney Mullins was on fire for the Golden Rockets. She contributed a majority of the points as she put on her game face and scored 24 points and made six three-pointers.
Trimble will face Belpre December 4th at Belpre looking for their first win of the season. As for Wellston, they travel to Gallia Academy December 2nd hoping to keep this momentum going.
