It was a solid week for Trimble as both Tomcat teams had a combined four games and came out of the week with a record of 3-1. The boy’s preserved their undefeated record and the girls picked up their first win of the season.

The Tomcats welcomed the Southern to Trimble Tuesday night and took a 69-64 win against the Tornadoes.

“It was a tremendous game,” Head Trimble Coach Howie Caldwell said. “Two teams evenly matched.”

The game was close all the way through as the Tomcats clung to a 1 point lead heading into the fourth quarter.

But from there, the team would hop on the back of star Randy Hixson as they carved out a 7 point lead before ultimately winning by 5.

Hixson ended up with 33 points in the game, just one game removed from his 40 point outing against Eastern.

Later in the week, the Tomcats remained home to face the Belpre Golden Eagles Friday.

After losing their 5-year unbeaten streak last year against Belpre, the Tomcats made quick work of the Golden Eagles and came out on top, 62-48. Randy Hixson was again the leading scorer for Trimble, this time dropping 35 points.

With another unbeaten week, the Tomcats are now a perfect 3-0 on the season and it’s their offense that has played a big roll in their success.

The team has managed to put up over 60 points a game, in large part to their leading man Randy Hixson.

Hixson is averaging a cool 36 points per game and doesn’t show signs that he’ll be slowing down anytime soon.

The Tomcats are neck and neck with Miller (4-0) for first place in the TVC-Hocking. They will get their first glimpse of each other when the Falcons come to town Jan. 5.

Next, the Tomcats will travel to Wahama on Dec. 19 to do battle with the Falcons before heading to Nelsonville-York on Dec. 23.

The Trimble Lady Tomcats didn’t survive the week unscathed, but they did pick up their first win of the season.

Dec. 9, the Lady Tomcats were home against a Nelsonville-York team that came in showing no mercy as the Buckeyes dismantled Trimble by a score of 59-30.

It was the fourth time in as many games that the Lady Tomcats failed to reach 40 points, while also giving up over 50.

That loss put Trimble at 0-4 to start the season, but, two days later, they went to Southern and captured their first win of the season, a tight 40-37 win over the Southern Tornadoes.

The offense started finally hitting their stride and the defense stepped up in a huge way. It was the lowest point total the Lady Tomcats had allowed all season, 17 points less than the next lowest.

With only seven girls on the team, the Lady Tomcats just don’t enough players right now to outlast their opponents and it’s hurting them.

However, if this team can get a little more seasoned as the year progresses, they could be a trap game for some of the teams on their schedule.

The Lady Tomcats have the firepower behind Sydney Hardy and Skylar Moore. If they can get those two going behind the arc and Breanna Brammer keeps fighting for boards in the low post, Trimble could catch a few teams off guard.

Next week, the Lady Tomcats will return home where they will face the Federal Hocking Lady Lancers Dec. 18. Then Dec. 21 they will travel to Wahama to play the Falcons.

These are two very winnable games for the Lady Tomcats and they will surely try and use them to get their season back on track.
