This past week has been a cold one for the Trimble Tomcats as winter weather has caused various cancellations for both the boys and girls teams.

Nonetheless, the new year has proved to be a bit frigid for the Trimble Tomcats as they hosted and fell short to the Miller Falcons 69-67 Friday January 5th.

The Tomcats came in strong within the first quarter and carried their strength into the second as they had a low amount of turnovers and high determination.

However, Miller’s determination was just as strong as Trimbles as the second quarter ended with a tied score of 34-34.

The third quarter proved to be a struggle for the Tomcats as head coach Howie Caldwell said his boys just didn’t play.

Nonetheless, the fourth quarter proved promising as Trimble was able to catch up to the Falcons when Max Hooper came in with a driving layup, tying the game 67-67.

The game was still tied with eight seconds left and coach Caldwell said they gambled and lost as Trimble fouled Miller allowing the Falcons to pull forward with a two point lead and a win.

Coach Caldwell said, “It was a great ball game just the wrong team won”.

On Saturday, the Trimble Tomcats faced the Alexander Spartans in what Coach Caldwell considered “a great game”.

He said his players worked hard and it showed as Trimble was in a four point lead within the first quarter.

However, as the game wore on Trimbles’ defense just could not muster enough momentum to overcome the Spartans’ Offense.

Alexander gained the lead within the second and did not let go well into the third.

Within the fourth quarter Trimble swoops in with a three point lead with two minutes to go with the help of Randy Hixson who scored 23 points throughout the game.

Trimble missed a three and fouled at the end of the fourth enabling Alexander to overcome and win with a score of 54-49.

The Trimble Tomcats will continue their season as they travel to face the Federal Hocking Lancers Tuesday January 9th.

Coach Caldwell said, “Fed Hock has improved tremendously. We will have to match their intensity, play hard, and execute well in order to win”.
