Big time teams win big time games and that is just what the Waterford Lady Wildcats did on Wednesday.

Freshly named Ohio Division IV’s No. 1 team, Waterford went just down the road to Warren High School to see Ohio Division II’s No. 13 squad and left with a 45-34 win.

From the beginning Waterford seemed to run the game. Play stoppages saw Warren players struggling to catch their breaths while the Lady ‘Cats seemed cooled and conditioned.

Morgan Lang entered late in the first quarter for Waterford and out back her own miss before the quarter’s end to give Waterford a 13-10 lead. Shots weren’t falling through, but then Rachael Adams woke up.

The junior Adams missed her first three shots from beyond the arc in the first quarter, but started Waterford’s drive that got the offense moving.

Just over five minutes remained until halftime when Adams nailed a three to increase the Lady ‘Cats’ lead to 16-12. Adams nailed another to grow the lead to 21-13. Adams nailed another three in the third quarter for an 11-point game.

Alli Kern nailed a three for herself to get the 27-15 Waterford lead at halftime. Kern was the team’s leader with a 12-point game with 14 rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Fellow senior Megan Ball rounded out as the third Lady Wildcat in double digit points with 10. Ball stuffed the sheets with seven rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocks.

Waterford (15-1) only has five more games before the tournament begins. They host Belpre on Thursday and Fort Frye on Saturday. The Lady Wildcats look to stay undefeated in Ohio with their only loss to Parkersburg (WV) in the season opener on Dec. 2.
