Alexander Dominates Nelsonville-York in the First Round of Playoffs
< < Back toThe Alexander Spartans hit the gas early and never looked back in a dominating win over the Nelsonville-York Buckeyes Tuesday night. Alexander built up an 18-11 lead after the first quarter and kept the momentum going. By halftime, Alexander would go up by 15 points and would cruise to a 64-47 win.
Alexander was led by senior Ryan Davidson with 16 points and 6 ft. 9 in. sophomore center Caleb Terry who controlled the paint. He finished with 12 points, and eight rebounds with five of them coming off the offensive glass.
NY welcomed back star player Ethan Bohyer who had been out since late January with an ankle injury. Bohyer poured in 21 points with four rebounds but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Spartans.
The Buckeyes put up a fight but were unable to overcome the turnovers that plagued them throughout the game. The Buckeyes turned the ball over 16 times compared to the Spartans four turnovers. Five of the Buckeyes turnovers came from starting point guard Justin Perry.
NY head coach Jamie Justus earned himself a technical foul in the second quarter after a foul was called on Bohyer. Despite that, Alexander held only a 10-point lead midway through the third quarter until the Spartans went on a 7-2 run to close out the quarter giving the Spartans 51-36 lead.
The Spartans will advance to the Sectional Championship against the South Point Pointers on Saturday at Jackson High School at 6:00 pm.
