This Week On Radio Free Athens: August 4, 2018

Every weekend local music geeks unite to provide the region with 11 hours of creatively curated tunes on WOUB 1340AM, an endeavor that is known commonly as Radio Free Athens! Typically the program runs from 9 a.m. EST to 8 p.m. EST every Saturday, and can also be heard through this link.

Here is a list of the DJs slated to play on Saturday, August 4:

9 a.m. to 12 p.m. – DJ Grumpy Grandma
12 p.m. to 3 p.m. – Dave Baer
3 p.m. to 6 p.m. – R@t
6 p.m. to 8 p.m. – DJ Arty Mac

Below, find a preview of some of the groovy tunes that will be flowing through the airwaves this Saturday from a couple of our volunteer DJs.

Hello my lovely Radio Free Athens fans, I hope that the first weekend of August, and a holiday weekend at that, finds you with rainbows and waterfalls in your mind.

Your favorite DJ with a penchant for spinning retro tunes is back, and with a vengeance. I recently moved from an apartment on the west side of Athens to a three bedroom house on Richland Avenue, right off ye olde highway. This means that I *obviously* have one entire room devoted to music listening, what with my 300-400 LPs and 300 or so CDs and 25 or so dusty cassettes.

I moved in this past Tuesday — so — guess what, not everything is organized, although when it is I will have a particularly fantastic show in store for you.

My father came down from Northeast Ohio to help me move, as we are both lovers of things, and we spent 18 hours moving my stuff, even as my other helpers, as great as they were, dropped off, and understandably so. For better or worse, I have inherited from my father what he calls a “packrat mentality,” and I can’t say he’s wrong. Some of my favorite things are stuff.

Tune into my show from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday to hear some fantastic tunes that are on CDs that I forgot I had, as well as a mix from WOUB’s fine music library.

From R@T, 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. 

R@T is celebrating Leo season with some musical shoutouts to his fellows Leos! So maybe we can look forward to some Madonna, some Mick Jagger, Alison Krauss, and many more! Leos are known for their fiery, passionate, humorous and warm-hearted ways, so look forward to this surely delightful show.
