The Chillicothe offense struggled all night.

Not one of their drives made it into the red zone, let alone the end zone, but down 13-8 with less than 2 minutes to play, they needed to mount one scoring drive.

And the Cavaliers delivered.

McKellan Lee punched it in from a yard out with 14 seconds to play and Chillicothe pulled out a 14-13 victory over Teays Valley despite being down 13-2 with nine minutes to play in the game.

Early on, it was evident that the game would be a slug fest. Neither team was able to manage any points in the first quarter. The Vikings finally broke the tie early in second, capitalizing on a Chillicothe miscue on a punt.

One play after recovering the Cavalier fumble, Tristan McDanel found Dale Hubbard up the seam for a 29 yard touchdown. The PAT was blocked, leaving the score at 6-0 Teays Valley with just over 11 min to play in the first half. That score would hold until the end of the first half.

Chillicothe finally got on the board midway through the third quarter when the Teays Valley punter bobbled the snap in the end zone and was tackled for the safety to bring the Vikings’ lead to 6-2.

Teays Valley extended their lead to 13-2 with a McDanel touchdown run with 9:14 remaining in the game, but that lead was short lived.

On the ensuing kickoff, J’Quan Harris gave life to the Cavaliers’ comeback effort with a spectacular 92-yard kickoff return that brought Chillicothe back within five, 13-8, after a failed two point conversion.

The Cavaliers would force a Viking fumble to set up the game-winning drive.

Both defenses were the story Friday night with neither team able to amass more than 200 yards of total offense. Teays Valley finished the night with 198 yards of offense, but committed 11 penalties and turned the ball over twice.

The Cavalier offense was held to just 157 yards, but turned in their best drive when it mattered the most.

Chillicothe will look to build on this big win next week when they travel to Mifflin to take on the Punchers.
