COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The City Council in Ohio’s capital city has approved paying the family of an 86-year-old woman killed in a firetruck accident $410,000 to settle a wrongful death lawsuit.

The Columbus Dispatch reports Columbus City Council voted on the settlement Monday in a lawsuit filed by William Glenn in the death of his mother, Elvyra Glenn, who died after the November 2013 accident.

The lawsuit alleged that a Columbus firefighter failed to activate the firetruck’s lights or siren before it collided with Elvyra Glenn’s vehicle.

The now-retired firefighter said in an affidavit that he pulled an air horn in short bursts before driving through a red light at an intersection. He also wrote that with “benefit of hindsight” he did not enter the intersection safely because an accident occurred.
