StoryCorps Podcast Returns With Stories Of Reunions

The revamped podcast will now publish Tuesdays with a new host and format

After a brief hiatus, you can once again hear intimate, emotional conversations from NPR’s StoryCorps in your podcast feed. The podcast kicks off its new seasonal schedule with a slate of stories about reunions, and what it means to be apart and come together.

In its first 12-episode season, StoryCorps shares the story of a family who found each other through a commercial DNA test; reconnects veterans and estranged friends who find each other in a shelter; and follows Dr. William Weaver, a StoryCorps favorite, as he returns, for the first time in 50 years, to the formerly segregated high school he attended.

Jasmyn Morris, the executive editor of StoryCorps, will host the new iteration of the podcast. She has been a StoryCorps producer since 2010.

Listen to the first episode of the new season, out now, on NPR One, Apple Podcasts, Pocket Casts, and wherever podcasts are available.

“In our work preserving and sharing the stories of people of all backgrounds, we know there are themes and ideas that are common. When people sit across from one another in a StoryCorps conversation, and really listen, they leave feeling even more connected with that person,” said Morris. “We chose to explore the meaning of reunions in this season, because that’s what these conversations do — they bring people together.”

Since 2003, StoryCorps has given nearly 500,000 people—Americans of all backgrounds and beliefs, in towns and cities in all 50 states—the chance to record interviews about their lives. Its collection is the largest single collection of human voices ever gathered; stories from the collection are the centerpiece of podcast and beloved weekly broadcast on NPR’s Morning Edition.

As part of its new publishing schedule, StoryCorps listeners will get two different stories a week; podcast listeners will get original reflections on what’s really important in life — love, loss, family, friendship — on Tuesdays. Frank conversations about familiar and extraordinary human experiences will air as usual on Morning Edition each Friday.
