West Virginia Jobless Rate Unchanged in November

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.2 percent in November.

WorkForce West Virginia says the number of unemployed state residents fell by 200 last month to 40,300. It’s the lowest seasonally adjusted total in more than a year. Total nonfarm employment has increased 6,500 since November 2017.

In the goods-producing sector, job gains of 800 in construction and 200 in manufacturing offset losses of 800 jobs in mining and logging.

Employment gains in the service-providing sector included 300 in leisure and hospitality, 200 in financial activities, 100 in professional and business services, and 100 in education and health services. Job losses included 700 in trade, transportation and utilities, 200 in information, 200 in government and 100 in other services.

Nationally, the unemployment rate stayed at 3.7 percent.
