In order to ring in 2019 right, the Southeastern Ohio Rainbow Alliance (SEORA) has planned a fundraising evening for Monday, December 31, 2018 at Arts West (132 East State Street, Athens). The organization, which services 19 counties throughout the region, works to provide full and comprehensive support and service to the LGBTQ+ community, and their first-ever New Year’s Eve event is intended to raise funds for a variety of events and services the organization has planned for 2019.

“We really wanted to plan something that would be fun and different and maybe be a little classier than our dance nights at Casa, although those are respectful and everything, we just wanted something people could dress up for a bit more,” said Zteffen Abikanile of SEORA, aka DJ Logan Savage.

Abikanile said that the event will showcase the work of artist Luke Boyd and feature a free champagne or non-alcoholic toast with event ticket purchase. There will also be a cash bar, with mixed drink specials and beer for $5, soda and water for $1. As DJ Logan Savage, Abikanile will treat the attendees to the event with some lighter musical fare early in the evening and segue into more “dance party vibe” tunes as midnight draws nearer.

“Passion Works’ artists have made us a special New Year’s Eve flower ball to drop at midnight, which is something that is unique to the event that you won’t see anywhere else in the region,” said Abikanile.

Abikanile said that SEORA already has a variety of exciting events planned for 2019, including lots of programming for Pride Week in June 2019.

Doors for SEORA’s New Year’s Eve Extravaganza: a Dress to Impress Gala will open at 8 p.m. Tickets are $25 and include a toast and desserts.
