The Eastern Eagles (10-6, 7-4 TVC-Hocking) took on the South Gallia Rebels (11-7, 6-6) in a tight TVC-Hocking matchup that was sent into overtime where things got even closer.

What started off as a back-and-forth battle translated into a phenomenal finale, with a 55-53 overtime win for Eastern.

Both teams struggled offensively but thrived defensively the entire game, racking up a plethora of steals, and conversely – turnovers. The struggles would continue into the fourth quarter, where early advances by the Rebels gave the impression of a South Gallia victory as they pulled ahead of the Eagles.

Eastern, would then mount a comeback late in the fourth to take an unstable lead.

However, with seven seconds remaining in regulation the Rebels scored an and-one, tying the game at 46 and sending it into overtime.

In overtime the game would go down to the wire once more. With 10 seconds left, the Rebels made a 3-pointer tying it at 53.

Eastern was then sent to the free throw line with three seconds remaining. With all eyes on him, Garrett Barringer executed, and scored both foul shots.

Barringer led the Eagles with 21 points, six rebounds and three assists. Not to mention the game winning free throws.

Coach David Kight gave gratitude to the team as a whole following the overtime win.

“That was a great team win for us,” he said. “Solid team win.”

The Eagles will be back in action on Friday at home against Belpre. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
