HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) – The mayor of Huntington, West Virginia, has ordered an investigation into the equipment protocols of the city’s fire department after its ladder trucks and rescue boats broke down.

The Herald-Dispatch reports Mayor Steve Williams announced the probe on Monday during a meeting in which residents complained about fire department equipment issues.

Both of the department’s ladder trucks are out of service, and another truck broke down last week because it was 14 quarts low on oil. Two department water rescue vessels are also out of service. Neighboring county fire departments are assisting while repairs are being made.

The mayor says he has ordered the city’s police chief and manager to prepare a report on repair recommendations and the fire department’s equipment protocol adherence. It’s unclear when the report is due.
