HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) – A West Virginia school board has approved placing security guards at 12 schools.

News outlets report the Cabell County Board of Education approved placing security guards at several schools that don’t have man-trap entry Tuesday. A handful of buildings do not have double-doored man-trap main entrances, which are reinforced and remotely locked to deter intruders.

County Superintendent Ryan Saxe and the board say security guards aren’t a permanent solution, but they are an extra safety measure while man-traps are being built at those schools. The measure is valid through the end of the school year with an option for renewal.

The total cost of the additional security through the end of the year is $84,600. It’ll be paid for through federal and county funds.
