On Thursday, February 28 starting at 4:30 p.m., The Gathering Place will hold their fifth annual Community Illumination event, taking place at Central Venue (29 East Carpenter Street, Athens). The event is an annual advocacy one for community mental health awareness for the organization, which has been serving the region for over 40 years. There will be lots of information at the event about the services that The Gathering Place offers, as well as artwork crafted by the artists at The Gathering Place, live entertainment, and food. Attendance to the event is free, but the organization does ask that attendees donate one personal care item, such as shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste or another hygiene item.

WOUB’s Emily Votaw spoke to Ginger Schmalenberg, the Resource and Development Director for The Gathering Place, about the upcoming event, in the interview embedded above.
