CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – Federal prosecutors have subpoenaed West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice’s tax records, signaling the widening of an investigation that’s already sought documents related to a resort owned by the governor.

The state Revenue Department released a copy of the federal grand jury subpoena Friday after receiving it last month.

The subpoena asks for communications, meeting documents and tax records involving the state and any of the roughly 100 private business interests held by the governor.

Last year, the governor held a news conference with revenue officials to say he resolved a series of state tax disputes that had followed his companies. Officials said Justice wasn’t involved in resolving the debts.

Justice’s spokesman didn’t return a voicemail.

The subpoena was first reported by MetroNews.
