Ohio Athletic Director Jim Schaus Steps Down
< < Back toATHENS, OH — The man that oversaw the rise of Bobcats Athletics over the past 11 years has decided to leave Athens.
According to the Athens Messenger, Jim Schaus, the Director of Athletics for Ohio University since April of 2008, has reportedly accepted the position of Commissioner of the Southern Conference.
Schaus had two years remaining on his contract with Ohio.
Since 2008, the Bobcats have enjoyed, arguably, their most successful run across all sports. Schaus was at the helm of the athletic department for numerous milestones, including four bowl victories, an appearance in the men’s basketball sweet 16, a couple of record-breaking seasons for the women’s basketball team and two NCAA tournament appearances a piece for the baseball and softball teams.
Schaus also was key in some of the off-field improvements for the athletic department as well, overseeing the construction and improvement of numerous athletic facilities including the Sook Academic Center and Walter Fieldhouse.
It is unclear as of the publishing of this article whether Ohio Athletics will conduct a search for a new director of athletics from outside the program or if they will promote from within.
