COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – A committee that conducts prison inspections on behalf of the Ohio Legislature says it found no problems during inspections at five corrections facilities.

Committee Executive Director Charlie Adams during a joint House-Senate hearing credited innovation at the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction and the new state budget for the lack of problems or weaknesses found.

The unannounced inspections were conducted at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, Ross Correctional Institution, Circleville Juvenile Correctional Facility, Belmont Correctional Institution and Trumbull Correctional Institution.

The Ohio Correctional Institution Inspection Committee has bolstered staffing after it went semi-dormant in the wake of efforts by then-Senate President Ken Faber to eliminate it altogether.

Faber is now state auditor.

Full-time inspectors and a deputy executive director have been hired since June.
