WOUB Learning Lab partners with museum for November Family Art Encounters event

ATHENS, OH – Children in the region will get a sneak peak of the new PBS Kids series Xavier Riddle and the Secret Museum during a special screening event at the Kennedy Museum of Art in Athens this November. The series introduces kids to inspiring historical figures and the character virtues that helped them succeed. WOUB Public Media’s Learning Lab has teamed up with the Kennedy Museum for its November 3rd Family Art Encounters event. During the screening, Art Encounters participants will go on a scavenger hunt through the Kennedy Museum to learn about several important people. Participants will follow clues and use the inspiration and materials gathered at every stop to create a book about themselves.

“This is a wonderful way to bring the series to life for children in our region,” said WOUB Educational Services Manager Deborah Brewer. “I think this will be a fantastic event for children and families in our region.”

Based on the children’s book series Ordinary People Change the World by New York Times bestselling author Brad Meltzer and illustrator Christopher Eliopoulos, the series follows the adventures of Xavier Riddle, his sister Yadina and their friend Brad. In each episode, the three face a problem and must turn to the Secret Museum to help them solve it. The Secret Museum allows the three friends to travel back in time to meet real-life historical figures when they were children.

“When the opportunity popped up to partner with the Kennedy Museum, we knew it made a lot of sense,” said WOUB Learning Lab Early Childhood Specialist Jaclyn Casey. “Through this partnership, we could offer children an opportunity to go on a similar adventure in a museum to discover information about important people in history and learn a little more about who they want to be.”

Family Art Encounters at the Kennedy Museum is a free, drop-in program open to all. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is not required. The Xavier Riddle screening will be held Sunday, November 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. The screening video will be played throughout the event.
