Stuart’s Presents the Southeast Ohio Regional Poetry Out Loud Semifinal

WHAT: Stuart’s Opera House (52 Public Square, Nelsonville, OH 45764) announces a school contest for Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest. The competition, presented in partnership with the Ohio Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. Over the past 15 years, Poetry Out Loud has reached more than 3 million students and 45,000 teachers from 10,000 schools nationwide.

On January 31, students from John Glenn, Nelsonville-York, Logan, and River Valley high schools, will participate in the Poetry Out Loud Regional Semifinal contest at Stuart’s Opera House. The winner of this competition will advance to the state Poetry Out Loud contest. The Ohio champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals in Washington, DC, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed.

  • Master of Ceremonies Micah Covert President, Board of Education Nelsonville York City Schools
  • Guest Judges: Jadey Gilmore, Federal Hocking Schools; Becca Lachman, Athens Public Libraries; Renard Phillips, Athens Public Libraries
