ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Voters in Athens County are being assured their polling locations will be safe when they go vote Tuesday.

Director Debbie Quivey of the Athens County Board of Elections said they’ve been monitoring the latest information on the coronavirus outbreak.

All locations in Athens County will follow strict sanitizing measures.

“We have hand sanitizer for every station,” Quivey said. “We have sent out a large thing of Clorox wipes, special wipes for our screens where people sign in. We have had a couple of people asked if they can wear medical masks, we don’t care if anyone does.”

Quivey says even with the precautions, she’s anticipating a lower voter turnout.

“Every election is unique, I don’t know what kind of effect it will have, but personally I look for us to have a lower turnout.”

Only one polling location has changed due to coronavirus precautions; the Appalachian Behavioral Healthcare location has moved down the road to the Ohio Means Jobs Building at 510 West Union St.
