ATHENS, OH (WOUB) –Two mobile food distributions will be held in Athens County this week in response to local need after the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak. The Southeast Ohio Foodbank, a program of the Hocking Athens Perry Community Action Agency (HAPCAP), is hosting the two events.

According to a news release, the Foodbank will be at the Athens County Fairgrounds on Thursday, March 19 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Trimble High School on Friday, March 20 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Food will be distributed to attendees in their cars and person-to-person contact will be kept to a minimum. Foodbank staff and volunteers will be handling all food items with gloves, and hand sanitizer will be available on site for staff and volunteers to use.

Eligible families are those who are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and are residents of Athens County. Photo I.D. and proof of residency that is no more than 60 days old is required.

HAPCAP is accepting monetary donations to help provide meals to children and the elderly during this crisis via hapcap.org/donate. They are also looking for volunteers in good health to help with future distributions. If interested call 740-385-6813.

This article has been updated to clarify that hand sanitizer will be available for those handing out the food, not for distributing to those picking up food.
