WOUB Presents: DJ Barticus Live From Quarantine Dance Parties< < Back to
Even in times of great uncertainty and darkness, DJ Barticus (Michael Bart) plans to continue to bring the joy of dance nights to his many sheltered-in-place fans through his virtual Live From Quarantine dance parties every Friday night starting at 10 p.m. EDT. WOUB’s Facebook will be presenting these streams every week, with parties planned for April 3, April 10, April 17, April 24, and May 1.
This is in response to restrictions on public gatherings made to contain the spread of COVID-19, which makes Barticus’ multiple monthly Athens-based dance nights impossible for the foreseeable future.
DJ Barticus is one of the most social people in Athens. Whether you are a fan of early Bruce Springsteen cover shows at Casa or late night weirdness at any one of Athens’ multiple house venues, you have certainly seen Athens’ jumpsuited musical hero at many regional musical events, and that is because he takes his attendance to such events seriously.
“I do miss the general going out and socializing because I am the type of person that any kind of music activity that was happening in Athens I felt it was my responsibility — it was in my job description — to attend,” he said in an exclusive interview with WOUB Public Media. “So I would want to go to jazz night at Tony’s as many Tuesdays as I could, and open stage at Casa on Wednesdays, and whatever night on the weekend I wasn’t DJ-ing I would want to see a show at The Union or The Skull or wherever the best music was happening (…) So I definitely miss all those connections, and I’m still trying to figure out how to operate in these times.”
Join DJ Barticus’ virtual dance parties Live From Quarantine by joining the stream on WOUB’s Facebook, Michael Bart’s Facebook, or Michael Bart’s Instagram @bartykutz every Friday night at 10 p.m. EDT. Streams will also be made available in individual event pages, go ahead and click “going” on WOUB’s event for the April 3 Live From Quarantine Dance Party right here.
