ATHENS, OH – Much of what viewers see on WOUB TV goes through On-Air Coordinator Kayla Romine in one way or another. Romine manages WOUB’s traffic department and coordinates all of the behind the scenes work to make sure viewers have a quality experience when watching WOUB.

“I love organization and problem-solving, both of which are integral skills for my day-to-day work,” said Romine. “I like that I can tune into WOUB TV or go to our website and see that what I’m doing makes a difference in our organization’s appearance to our viewers.”

Romine is from Mount Perry in Perry County. She graduated from Ohio University in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in fine art with a focus in graphic design. Romine started at WOUB in 2011 as a part-time master control operator and worked her way up to her current position.

WOUB, with its public service mission, is something Romine is proud to be a part of.

“I love being a part of an organization that has always provided quality programming that promotes learning and growth, especially now in these trying times,” said Romine. “I love that I can turn on my television and show my family, especially my two-year-old daughter who loves Daniel Tiger and Molly of Denali, a product of what I do every day.”

Romine and the other members of the traffic department are also responsible for making sure live breaking news events get on the air. She knows how important that part of her job is during the pandemic, when the latest news and information is critical to WOUB’s viewers.

“At the start of the pandemic, we were required to work from home, which meant learning how to use our equipment and new automation system remotely on a large scale. This became an important part of making sure live events, such as Governor DeWine’s Press Conferences and 2020 Election Coverage, went off without a hitch. With a lot of practice, WOUB’s Traffic Department has become extremely savvy with remote work, and it’s become a large part of our new normal.”

In her free time, Romine loves photography, cooking, baking and participating in outdoor activities such as camping, hiking and canoeing. One of her favorite places to visit is Acadia National Park in Maine.
