Slideshow: Under The Elms Communiversity Band Performance

Families, friends and pets from Athens and neighboring communities gather at College Green Thursday night for an Under the Elms music concert, part of a summer series organized by the Ohio University School of Music, featuring the Communiversity Band, which is composed of students, faculty and community members.

For some, the concert series is tradition. “I used to come up here when my kids were little and now my oldest daughter is playing,” said Guy Rifler who played crossword and sudoku while listening to the concert. For others, like Jen and Chris Washko, who moved to Athens three years ago, this concert was their first. “Our friends put this on our calendar and I was like, Katie, what is this,” said Chris. “And this is awesome. It’s (past our son’s) bedtime, but he loves music and it’s a good family atmosphere.”

The next Under the Elms concert will take place at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.
