ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — One of the standout players at the linebacker position in Ohio’s fall camp is Bryce Houston.

His time with the Bobcats has been anything but easy so far.

The redshirt junior dealt with some injuries such as a torn ACL.  He also worked through many obstacles in his career such as working his way up the depth chart.

That’s never stopped Houston from working as hard as possible.  That has gotten him a ton of attention from his head coach Tim Albin.

“He’s got the best smile on the team,” Albin said.  “It’s awesome seeing him running around.  He’s worked his tail off.  He’s a guy that’s going to make a lot of tackles for us.”

Overcoming everything says it not only made him strong as a player but as a person as well.

“I worked pretty hard to get myself back to where I am today,” Houston said.  “I just want to thank my family and my teammates for pushing me to get to be the player I can be.”

All the hard work is starting to pay off.

Houston is the healthiest he’s ever been in his time at Ohio.  He’s looking forward to getting back in a game for the first time since the Bobcats played Bowling Green last November.

“I’m excited to be back,” Houston said.  “I’m happy to be out with the team.  I’m feeling great, ready to get back and ready to beat Syracuse.”

There’s a quote that goes “Difficult roads always lead to beautiful destinations”.  It looks like that is starting to apply to Houston more and more as the start of the 2021 season gets closer.

Ohio opens up against Syracuse on Sept. 4 under the lights at Peden Stadium.
