ST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) — Boos rained down as the Wheeling Park Patriots trotted out onto the field at Red Devil Stadium. However the Patriots were able to weather the hostile environment to take an early 6-0 lead on a 62 yard touchdown pass to Jerrae Hawkins.

The next St. Clairsville drive was stopped on the goal line by a tipped pass by Patriots’ defender Nate Shelek. After another Patriot touchdown, Jacob Jordan was able to put the Red Devils on the board with a short touchdown run. At the half, Wheeling Park led 12-7.

Jacob Jordan continued the Red Devil momentum with a 52-yard touchdown run early in the third quarter as the Devils took the lead 14-12.

The Patriots seesawed back in front with a three-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brett Phillips to receiver Nate Shelek and reclaimed a 18-14 lead.

In the end the game went down to a Red Devil 4th & goal from the 10 yard line, where Patriot defenders Colton Thomas and Will James deflected the pass to seal the Patriots 18-14 victory.

Patriots head coach Chris Daugherty praised his defense after the game,

“We knew we were gonna have to win with our defense, and for them to finish out on the field and get the stop. That was good for that group”

St. Clairsville will try to rebound on Friday against South Allegheny from McKeesport, PA

Wheeling Park will jump the Ohio River again next week travelling to Steubenville.
