ATHENS, OH – Kim Kanner will talk about how she ended up being the first female to ever technical direct studio shows at the Super Bowl for ESPN thanks to connections from WOUB at the next WOUB Wednesday on November 10 at 7:30 p.m.

WOUB Wednesdays are a great way to provide students the opportunity to talk with industry professionals virtually,” said WOUB Director of Student Professional Development Michael Rodriguez.

When Kanner started volunteering at WOUB as a student in 2004, she wasn’t quite sure what she wanted to do. She just knew she wanted to work on the production side of television. Kanner is now the crewing manager in Remote Operations at ESPN and has been working at ESPN for 13 years. She oversees the staffing for five different sports: the NFL, MLB, college basketball, soccer and tennis. Her department won a 2018 Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Technical Team Remote for work they did at the U.S. Open.

“Throughout fall semester, we have had several former WOUB students talk with current students and alumni,” said WOUB Community Engagement Manager Cheri Russo. “Kim is the last one scheduled for this semester. We are putting together the schedule for next semester now and anticipate another great line up of speakers in the spring.”

The first WOUB Wednesday speaker of spring semester 2022 will be Senior Manager, Brand & Commercial Video at New York City FC Tanner Smith on January 19 at 7:30 p.m.

The virtual discussions are held on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m. throughout the semester and are open to all current and former WOUB students as well as WOUB staff. Those interested can register at  bit.ly/WOUBWednesday  Registration is required for each session.
