LYNCHBURG, Ohio (WOUB) — The 18th seeded Eastern Lady Eagles traveled to Lynchburg Clay to take on 15th seeded Lynchburg Clay Lady Mustangs. This Division IV matchup would end up being a nail bitter throughout as both teams gave it their all.

Both teams came out hot on the offensive end trading buckets back and forth. The Lady Mustangs had a balanced attack involving all of their starters. For Eastern the quarter was dominated by Sydney Reynoldes who tallied 11 points and led Eastern to a first quarter lead of 19-17.

The second quarter began and both teams cracked down on the defensive end. Lynchburg Clay came out with a stifling full court press that completely shut down the Eagles offense and only allowed four points to be scored. For the Eagles their defense also was much better as they only allowed for the Mustangs to score 10 points in this quarter and went into the half down 4 27-23.

Once halftime ended both teams came out on a mission and they traded buckets throughout the quarter. The unselfish offense on both sides led to another high scoring quarter. The Eagles were able to win the quarter as they brought the lead to just 2 points going into the final quarter.

Once the fourth quarter began Eastern was unable to capitalize on a few possessions and Lynchburg Clay jumped on the opportunity taking an early 9 point lead. Eastern was able to claw back throughout the quarter and brought the lead all the way down to 3 points with 1:30 left in the game.

The game ended with a final score with the Eagles on the losing side 59-53. Sydney Reynoldes had a monster game with 26 points and 13 rebounds as she tried to will her team to the next round. Though the Lady Eagles season has come to an end they have much to look forward to as they have no seniors on the roster.
