Trimble flies past Symmes Valley; Advance to District Finals< < Back to
PIKETON, Ohio (WOUB) — The Trimble Lady Tomcats took on the Symmes Valley Vikings in the Southeast 1 bracket district semi-finals. The Tomcats came into this game as the top seed in the tournament, and the Vikings came in as the eight seed.
This game was all Trimble from the very beginning. They were moving the ball up and down the floor wit ease against the Vikings and four of the fiver starters got in on the scoring. At the end of the first quarter the Tomcats had a commanding 20-11 lead.
The Vikings struggled against Trimble’s press defense and could not move the ball up the floor well in the first half. They were limited to just 11 points in both the first and second quarters of play.
Meanwhile Jayne Six was getting buckets In the paint finishing the first half with 10 points, and Emily Young and Brianna Orsborne were lighting it up from mid-range and behind the arch. Young finished the first half with 12 points, Orsborne finished with 9 points.
The Tomcats went into halftime with a dominate 44-22 lead.
That lead only grew in the second half as the Vikings struggled to convert inside on tough contested shots. There were many turnovers forced by Trimble’s defense that they capitalized on for easy buckets on the other side of the floor.
When the second half ended the Tomcats were victorious, the final score being 72-37.
Orsborne was atop the scoring column for the Tomcats with 18 points, Young was close behind with16 points, and Six posted a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Trimble advances to the district finals to take on the team that handed them their first loss of the season South Webster on Friday February 25th in Piketon.
