CHILLICOTHE, Ohio (WOUB) — The four seeded Vinton County Vikings (17-5) traveled to Southeastern High School for a district finals matchup against the one seeded Sheridan Generals (19-3). This was a highly anticipated rematch after the Vikings beat the Generals last year in the Regional Finals 57-34.

This game however told a different story. Sheridan has size at every position. They were able to clog passing lanes and cutoff the drive, making it extremely tough for the Vikings to get any interior penetration. They were forced to dribble outside the three-point line and hand the ball off. The Generals were opportunistic and jumped some of those passes and take them the other way for easy layups.

It wasn’t all doom and gloom though. Tegan Bartoe came out of the gates firing, hitting two early threes. She was also a menace on defense making life miserable for Sheridan. The Vikings were in the thick of it early. Towards the end of the first, though, the Generals started hitting shots from the outside.

The second and third quarters were more of the same. Outside of Cameron Zinn and Bartoe, Vinton County didn’t get much offensive output. They accounted for 31 of the team’s 34 points. Senior center, Faith Stinson, for Sheridan stands a 6’1 and is a force in the paint. It made it difficult for the Vikings to get up shots inside without at least a hand in their face.

Stinson was also drilling threes from outside. She finished the game with 23 points. Bailey Beckstedt, Sheridan senior guard, finished with 16 points. Bartoe ended with 20 points, while Zinn had 11.

Sheridan avenged last years lost with a final score of 63-34.

It’s a tough end to the VC season, but head coach Brett Jones still views it as a successful run. They finish the season 17-6, TVC-Ohio Champs, and Sectional Champs.
