PICKERINGTON, Ohio (WOUB) — The second seeded Waterford Lady Wildcats took on the third seeded Berne Union Lady Rockets in the Regional Semi-Finals. The winner would take on the Trimble Lady Tomcats on Saturday.

The game started out extremely slow for both teams on the offensive end. The Wildcats full court press completely shut down the Berne Union offense forcing turnovers left and right. While Berne Union played a stifling man defense on the other end leading to a score of 6-3 at the end of the first.

The second quarter was much of the same on the defensive end from Waterford as they continued to force the Lady Rockets into bad decisions. The leader of the defensive charge was freshman center Avery Wagner who made traps almost unbeatable as her height and length completely stifled Berne Union both in the paint racking in blocks as well as getting steals on the full court press. The Waterford offense was able to get a few more buckets and go into the half up 19-7.

Defense continued to prevail in the second half leading to a third quarter score of 27-16 and a final score of 40-25. The top performers for the Wildcats were senior Cara Taylor who had 12 points, 3 rebounds, and three assists, senior Mackenzie Suprano who also had 1 points 3 rebounds and 2 assists, and finally freshman Avery Wagner who had 7 points 5 rebounds and 3 huge blocks.

This sets up a tiebreaker game between Waterford and Trimble who split the regular season series. If Waterford wants to win this grudge match they will need to shoot the ball much better and make sure their defense is flexible.
