One COVID-related death has been reported in Athens County, along with 131 new cases for June 24-30

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 145 total deaths related to COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after one was added to the total Thursday. The county also has now had had 15,847 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 131 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.

The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on June 30, 2022.

Analysis of ODH data indicates the death involved a person in their 70s.

The cases involved 27 people 20-29, 23 people 0-19, 20 people 50-59, 16 people 30-39, 15 people 60-69, 14 people 40-49, 13 people 70-79 and three people 80+.

There are 400 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 15,302 recovered cases, according to ODH.

A total of 52.88% of the county has started the vaccination process and 49.42% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 17,747 first boosters and 3,420 second boosters administered.

Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.

Thursday at 2 p.m., the Ohio Department of Health announced 17,225 confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 statewide were reported since last week’s update. There were also 483 hospitalizations and 32 ICU admissions reported in the same time period.

ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
  • Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
  • Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Avoid contact with people who are sick.
