ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – Ohio Hockey welcomed home its alumni Friday night with a home stand against Alabama Frozen Tide and a dominating 9-2 win.

The Bobcats were coming off a beatdown of John Carroll where they outscored the Blue Streaks 14-4 in two games, while the Frozen Tide were entering from a 6-4 home win against Auburn.

Both offenses started slow, unable to hit the back of the net until forward John McLaughlin knocked a shot in seven and a half minutes into the period to give Ohio the early lead. The Bobcats followed that up 57 seconds later with a second goal, this time from forward Laker Aldridge.

Alabama’s offense remained shell shocked as Ohio was able to find the net two more times before the period ended. Aiden Grieco scored both on power plays.

The second period was much of the same, the Bobcats ruled the puck striking at the Frozen Tide over and over. Hollander Thompson scored less than two minutes into the period. Ohio played a lot of keep away for the rest of the period not letting the Frozen Tide have the puck for any significant amount of time.

The Bobcats headed into the third period on top 6-0 and looking to continue keeping Alabama out of the net.

Neither team scored in the third period until seven minutes in Alabama finally got on the board. The play seemed like miscommunication from the Bobcats, they would respond through scoring another goal of their own at the 9:47 mark. The Frozen Tide wasted no time in answering and scored again less than 20 seconds later, moving the score to 7-2.

Following that Ohio would go on to score two more times finishing it out with a goal from its leading scorer Luc Reeve and walking away with the victory.

Ohio hosts Alabama for its second game of the series Saturday night at Bird Arena.
