NELSONVILLE, Ohio (WOUB) – Excitement is high with the Nelsonville York football team, not just because the Buckeyes are 5-1 on the gridiron. They currently sit in pole position to win the TVC-Ohio conference title for the third consecutive season.

But off the field, Nelsonville-York is building a new foundation to keep their football program, as well as their other acclaimed sports teams, at the top for years to come.

The school district recently unveiled a brand new weight room for student use. The weight room includes new Rogue-issued weights, bench presses and squat racks, and indoor turf for drills. Ninety percent of the equipment purchased for the new facility was made in Ohio.

Nelsonville-York athletic director Jay Kline credits the NY school board for seeing the need for change and pushing for the new weight room.

The school board and Nelsonville-York superintendent Rick Edwards saw the need for this to be updated, and went ahead and financed the money.

“The meetings that we had, the things that we talked about, were a collaboration of a lot of people bringing in ideas and you’re looking at the end result,” he said.

The football team is thrilled to get their first reps in.

“The possibilities now are endless for us, each machine can do a whole lot for us and get us ready for every season,” said senior G/DE Dalton Inman.

The seniors were understandably excited to try out the new equipment, but these new machines will also help build the next generation of Buckeye athletes to come through the program.

“I’ve been waiting for it for a while,” said junior HB/DB Gavin Richards. “Since they took [the old weight room] down, I’m just glad to get back in here and start lifting again,”
