PARKERSBURG, West Virginia — You’ve seen them on late night TV with Jimmy Fallon. You’ve seen them across social media. Now the pop culture phenomenon of lip sync battles is coming to the Actors Guild of Parkersburg.

AGP’s Lip Sync Battle 2023 will occur in two phases. Individuals or groups can submit a 30-second clip lip syncing to their chosen song on the guild’s website now through January 16. The entry fee is $10 per person for each submission. Participants must be at least 18 years old.

Voting for the submissions will occur January 18 through February 1. Each vote is $5, and fans can vote as often as they wish on the website.

The top 10 vote winners will then move on to phase two where they will perform their submitted song plus one additional lip synced song live on stage at the Actors Guild on February 18. The night of the Lip Sync Battle, additional $5 votes can be cast. Those votes, along with voting from a panel of judges, will determine the contest winner. Judges for the live event will include Kiki Angelos, Joe Oliverio, and Phyllis Smith.

The first place winner will receive a $1000 cash prize. Second, third, and people’s choice prizes will also be given.

Betty Dotson, a member of the guild’s fundraising committee, says FUN is the key to this event.

“Who hasn’t sung along with their favorite songs either holding a hairbrush or some other item as a microphone pretending to be a superstar?” Dotson said. “The cool thing is that for this event you really don’t have to be able to carry a tune…just act like you can!”

Tickets for the live event will be available for $15 in advance or $20 at the door.

Contest details are available on the Actors Guild website at https://www.actors-guild.com/lip-sync-battle.html.
