82 new COVID-19 cases reported in Athens County from Jan. 27 – Feb. 2

ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Athens County has now had 19,648 total cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic after 82 additional cases were reported since last week’s update.
The Ohio Department of Health confirmed the numbers on Feb. 2, 2023.
According to ODH data, the cases involved 24 people age 0-19, 16 people age 20-29, 15 people 30-39, 12 people 40-49, eight people 70-79, five people 50-59, one person 60-69 and one person 80+.
There are 230 known active cases in the county as of Thursday and 19,262 recovered cases, according to ODH.
A total of 54.10% of the county has started the vaccination process and 50.43% has completed it, according to ODH. There have also been 19,327 first boosters and 9,410 second boosters and 9,341 updated boosters administered.
Anyone experiencing respiratory symptoms is asked to call their primary care physician, urgent care, or emergency department before arriving for care to let them know that they believe they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19 virus.
ODH makes the following recommendations to protect yourself from illness:
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; dry hands with a clean towel or air dry hands.
- Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer when soap and water are unavailable.
- Cover your mouth with a tissue or sleeve when sneezing or coughing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Avoid contact with people who are sick.
