Gallipolis, Ohio (WOUB)- The Alexander Spartans traveled to Gallipolis to take on the Gallia Academy Blue Devils for their first playoff match up.

The Spartans, led by a starting lineup full of seniors, looked to continue their season long dominance and fulfill their dreams of bringing a title home to Albany. One of these seniors is the TVCs all-time leading scorer and superstar, Kyler D’Augustino.

The first quarter started off slow with each team struggling to put points on the board. The Blue Devils stuck to a strategy of double teaming D’Augustino, limiting him to a handful of points. Gallia Academy had trouble on offense as well, although they showed promise in the paint. The score of the first was 8-4 with Gallia Academy in the lead.

Both teams looked to improve on offense, and the Blue Devils did just that. They caught fire and outscored the Spartans 17-8 in the second quarter. The main reason for this spark being Alexander’s struggle to pull in rebounds. The score going into the half was 25-12.

Coming out of the half, Gallia Academy continued their dominance. The Spartans constantly turned the ball over, giving the Blue Devils many opportunities to score in transition. The score after the third was 44-20.

The final quarter showed the Alexander team that Spartan fans are used to. Alexander hit three after three but ultimately could not stop Gallia Academy’s exceptional offense, losing the game 66-37.

With this loss, D’Augustino’s high school career ends. He closes out this chapter as the TVCs all-time scorer with 2,000+ points and admiration from his community. In his final game he scored 21 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and a block.
