ATHENS, OH – During the 2022 fiscal year, WOUB continued to grow in fundraising and membership, while expanding its service to the region through community engagement and educational outreach. In the newly released 2022 Local Content and Service Report, WOUB is showcasing how more community members, educators, and families are utilizing our television, radio and online platforms as well as non-broadcast educational services. As a result, more people are realizing the value WOUB brings to the community and are supporting us financially through membership.

“We continue to welcome new members to the WOUB family who have discovered us over the last couple of years,” said WOUB General Manager Mark Brewer. “They recognize the value of a quality, trusted source of news and information.”

WOUB also saw a 338% increase in attendance at its annual Ohio Ready to Learn Workshops. The interactive workshops further education for home daycare and private childcare providers. All of the workshops are “Ohio Approved” by The Ohio Child Care Resource and Referral Association and are all a part of the “Step Up to Quality Initiative” in Ohio. There were 36 workshops with a total of 513 attendees.

“Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, these workshops were held virtually and that allowed the early childhood providers to attended when it was most convenient for them,” said Brewer. “We are now back to offering in-person workshops, but also have virtual sessions to reach those who need flexibility.”

As a Community Service Grant recipient from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), WOUB provides the Local Content and Service Report to the CPB and publishes it online. The report can be found here: bit.ly/2022WOUBCommunityReport.
