ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) – According to Pete Thamel, Ohio Football Head Coach Tim Albin has inked a two-year contract extension through the 2026 season.

The third-year head coach was promoted to his role on July 15, 2021, after 16 years as the Offensive Coordinator for Ohio.

In his first year, Albin and the Bobcats struggled to a 3-9 record, but wasted no time bouncing back in his sophomore year. The Bobcats went 10-4 overall, made an appearance in the MAC title game, and took home the Arizona Bowl with its win over Wyoming.

The new deal jumps Albin’s salary from $535,000 to $700,000 and includes a team incentive clause. The clause states if Ohio wins eight games or wins the MAC championship, Albin will receive an automatic year extension.

The Bobcats return key starters including Kurtis Rourke, Sam Wiglusz and Bryce Houston for another shot at a MAC title run in 2023. Rourke is coming off an ACL tear at the end of the 2022 season, but led Ohio with a hefty 3,256 passing yards and 25 touchdowns.

Ohio kicks off its season in San Diego, California against the San Diego State Aztecs on Aug 26.
