“Ace Nation” returns to WOUB
< < Back toCoverage begins August 28
ATHENS, OH – WOUB Public Media is excited to bring back Ace Nation. The digital coverage will showcase five high school girls’ volleyball teams in Athens County: Athens, Alexander, Trimble, Nelsonville-York, and Federal Hocking. Ace Nation is led by Hailey Hollinger, a junior journalism – news and information major, along with WOUB Sports Editor and Studio Production Manager Molly Kennedy.
Ace Nation originally launched in the fall of 2017 and only lasted one season. Kennedy was part of the student team that worked on the production then. She says the new version will build on elements that worked in the past and tell the stories of the successful volleyball programs in Southeast Ohio.
“Ace Nation will be an online only production, and the content created will be posted on the WOUB website and social media,” said Kennedy. “Being able to bring this coverage back was the first thing I wanted to get done in my professional staff position at WOUB. Having seen the success and energy Southeast Ohio girls’ volleyball brings to the court is something that needs to be showcased to the highest extent. The Trimble Tomcats have won the last three district championships, the Alexander Spartans have players committing to division 1 programs, and all other programs have recent success with All-TVC player selections.”
While the staff for this coverage will be small, reporters will likely attend two or three games a week.
“Having a sport be so successful and not be noticed is a shame,” said Kennedy. “I am so proud to be part of the team that gets to shine the light on girls high school volleyball in Athens County.”
Coverage will begin Monday, August 28. Ace Nation can be found on Facebook and X (formerly known as Twitter).
