AMANDA, Ohio (WOUB)- The Bulldogs used a strong start to beat the Aces 41-7.

The Bloom-Carroll Bulldogs traveled to Amanda-ClearCreek on Friday night to take on the Aces. It was the opening Mid State League conference matchups for both teams. The Bulldogs are coming off two straight wins and the Aces are following a blowout win over Adena.

he game started with Amanda-ClearCreek taking the ball on their own 24. Two Aces penalties caused the Amanda-ClearCreek opening drive to stall out and punt on their own 13-yard line.

Bloom-Carroll came out red hot on their opening drive.  Three carries from senior Zach Armentrout, and a big pass play to Carter Cornelius got the Bulldogs to the red zone. A five-yard touchdown from junior Ethan Thanthanavong to junior Michael Stevenson led the Bulldogs to the endzone for a 6-0 Bloom-Carroll lead.

On the ensuing possession, eight runs by Amanda-Clearcreek caused them to punt. The Bulldogs took over in their own territory, and immediately marched down the field. The drive was capped off with a 43-yard Brodyn Bishop touchdown to put Bloom-Carroll up 13-0.

Although down, the Aces did not give up.  Sophomore Tommy Stai took the next kickoff 73 yards, down to the Bulldogs 17-yard line. Junior Logan Stevens took a quarterback sneak two yards for a touchdown and brought the Aces within a touchdown. Bloom-Carroll immediately responded with a touchdown drive of their own. Six Armentrout carries and a big Brodyn Bishop run brought the Bulldogs to the Aces four-yard line. The drive was finished with a Zach Armentrout three-yard touchdown.

The following kickoff was taken 55 yards by Stai. Two big penalties by Bloom-Carroll led them into the redzone. With seconds on the clock and the field goal unit on, Brodyn Bishop blocked the Aces kick and kept the score 20-7.

The second half was all Bulldogs. A big facemask penalty helped Bloom-Carroll into Amanda-ClearCreek territory. Ethan Thanthanavong took a read option 39-yards into the endzone, giving Bloom-Carroll a 27-7 lead. The next three drives resulted in punts. Armentrout and Aces junior Landon Mills tried to get their teams going, but neither could lead their teams to scoring drives.

Five Armentrout carries rallied Bloom-Carroll into Amanda-Clearcreek territory. Junior Beau Sherman bulldozed 24 yards into the endzone for a 34-7 Bulldogs lead. Punts by both teams gave the Aces the ball back. After a Logan Stevens scramble, senior Landon Covell fumbled his second of back-to-back carries, giving the Bulldogs the ball on their own 47-yard line.

Beau Sherman and Carter Cornelius helped the Bulldogs take advantage of the mistake by Amanda-Clearcreek, leading Bloom-Carroll down the field in a hurry. A defensive pass interference penalty and a facemask propelled the Bulldogs inside the Aces 10-yard line. Beau Sherman took his final carry of the night into the endzone, giving Bloom-Carroll a 41-7 lead with little time left in the game.

Amanda-Clearcreek would finish the game with a three and out. A quarterback kneel capped off the game off with a final score of 41-7.

Amanda-Clearcreek moves to 2-2 on the year and will travel to Circleville next week.  Bloom-Carroll improves to 3-1 and will host Liberty Union next week.
