ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — The Ohio Bobcats (4-6-2) fell short in a hard-fought MAC matchup against the Toledo Rockets (5-5-2).

Early on, the Bobcats controlled possession. Freshman Jaimason Brooker picked up a shot on target but could not find the back of the net.

Toledo was able to get itself on the board just over 20 minutes into the half, scoring off a set piece from midfield to make it a 1-0 game.

Ohio was not able to effectively respond and could not get anything started with their offense for the remainder of the half. Plenty of substitutions were made, but the new players on the field could not jump start the Bobcats attack.

With plenty of on target shots from Toledo, Ohio defended the goal well. The Rockets went into the half with three shots on goal and two corner kicks, while the Bobcats only had the loan shot on goal.

Going into the second half, Ohio was gaining some momentum. They kept the ball on their side of the field, and consistently threatened to score. Toledo didn’t pick up any more shots on goal for the entire second half.

After three back-to-back corner kicks and a slew of shots from the Bobcats, they were ultimately unable to make anything work against the Rockets, who added a victory to their record.

Ohio rounded out the game with four shots on goal and four corner kicks, along with two saves from sophomore Celeste Sloma.

The Bobcats next test will come when they venture to Kalamazoo to face off with the Western Michigan Broncos (6-3-2) on Oct 8.
