Pomeroy, Ohio (WOUB) – The Athens Bulldogs traveled to Pomeroy to face off against the Meigs Marauders in a TVC – Ohio Matchup.

The Bulldogs were looking for a win tonight to give them a record of 2-0 in the conference after a win against the Wellston Rockets last week.

Athens started out strong, with a dominant first quarter defensively. They let very few shots fall for the Marauders and were able to cut through the Meigs defenders to pick up points of their own.

At the end of the first, the Bulldogs had managed to pull ahead with a score of 12-8.

The Bulldogs’ pace remained consistent into the second quarter, but the Marauders began to pick up steam, playing much faster on the offensive end. Athens struggled to keep up, and the Marauders pulled ahead and didn’t look back.

The Marauders came out on top in the first half with a 7-point lead of 27-20

After a trip to the locker room for both teams, the second half was underway. The third quarter proved to be more of the same from the Marauders, who kept up their fast-paced play style.

Athens was able to keep it close thanks to players like Easton Nuzum, who had 18 points at the end of the night, and kept this game within reach, with a score of 37-27 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Athens struggled to close the gap. Turnovers proved to be a challenge for the Bulldogs and a major advantage for the Marauders, who efficiently capitalized on almost every scoring opportunity, and came out on top with a final score of 52-42.

Athens has a chance to improve their conference record when they square off against Vinton County at home on Friday.
