BUCHTEL, Ohio (WOUB) — The Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes hosted the Vinton County Vikings Thursday night in a TVC-Ohio matchup. With both teams coming off a loss prior, they looked to bounce back with a win. The Lady Buckeyes held the lead for most of the game but a big fourth quarter from the Vikings propelled them to victory 53-43.

The first quarter was a slow back-and-forth for each team as nothing was falling. The Buckeyes maintained the lead throughout the first with help from senior Ariah Lavy. Lavy had eight out of 11 points for NY. But the Vikings would not go away, making the score 11-10 at the end of the quarter.

With the first quarter being sloppy on both ends the second quarter was the complete opposite. Both teams were trading bucket after bucket and defense was a huge factor. Steals and turnovers were massive as the Lady Buckeyes and Vikings were able to capitalize on these miscues. Nelsonville-York would pull away, making the score 28-25 heading into the half.

Coming out of the half Vinton County would take their first lead of the game to start the quarter. The Lady Buckeyes would not give up that easily as they traded shots with the Vikings to even the score. Both teams would continue to answer on the offensive end leading to the scoreboard tied at 36 to end the third.

Just like the third, VC would start the quarter on fire as they sunk two threes in a row to give them an early six-point lead. The Lady Buckeyes would fight back with help from Alayna Okulich inside the paint to cut the lead. But the Vikings would sink yet another three pointer to make the score 49-41. This proved to be too much for NY as they could not spark a comeback. Vinton County would go on to win the TVC-Ohio match-up 53-43.
