RACINE, Ohio (WOUB) – The Trimble Tomcats (4-12) were ready to rumble against the Southern Tornadoes (4-13) in an intense match-up on Wednesday night. Trimble took off on an early start in this game until the Tornadoes tied up the score halfway through the third quarter. Although both teams fought valiantly, this battle ultimately ended in a 42-33 Tomcat win.

Although Southern won the tip-off, Trimble quickly took the lead and powered ahead. The Tomcats ran their offense through Mckenzie Eing, pushing back against the Tornadoes’ full-court press. Eing went 3/3 on field goals, scoring 6 of their 10 points in the first quarter.

After some struggles against Southern, Coach Joe Richards reorganized Trimble’s defense to sweep the Tornadoes out of the paint. While the Tomcats continued to succeed on defense, also they furthered their offensive success as Eing passed the ball to Rilynn Fouts, ending the first half 22-9.

Despite Trimble’s early start, Southern came out of the locker room determined to take them down. Right out of the gate, the Tornadoes overplayed on defense, leading to a few quick buckets. Halfway through the third quarter, the Tomcats called a timeout after a 4-point run by Southern. Coming out of the timeout, Southern tried to full-court press Trimble but was ultimately unsuccessful. Although the Tornadoes tried to keep it close, the Tomcats took ahold of this game in the fourth quarter, sealing this game as a win for Trimble.

The Trimble Tomcats will take on the Eastern Eagles on Wednesday, February 1 in Reedsville, while the Southern Tornadoes will travel to match-up against Belpre.
