ALEXANDER, Ohio (WOUB) – The 6-15 Meigs Marauders traveled to play the 13-7 Alexander Spartans in an exciting cross-conference matchup. The Lady Marauders were looking to break their four-game losing streak, while the Spartans came in with a win at Trimble on Saturday. The last matchup between the two resulted in an Alexander victory 60-51.

The first quarter was kept tight, with junior Keaghan Wolfe scoring the first point of the game with a three-pointer. Alexander opened play with an intense full-court press, which would end up strengthening their performance throughout the game. Meigs trailed 14-8 at the end of the first.

The second quarter was much of the same. Alexander held a height advantage over the Marauders and continued to pressure on transition with the press. Senior Delana Wright led scoring at the half with nine points, while Lily Rider notched 12. The Spartans kept a slight edge on Meigs, leading 23-20 at the half.

Out of the break, the Spartans came out firing. Their defensive press continued to stop the Marauders from offensive action; Rider and Kaylee Hudnall combined for a total of 13 steals throughout the game. This propelled more scoring opportunities for Alexander, and they scored a total of 23 points in the third quarter alone versus Meigs’ 14.

The fourth quarter continued to see the Spartans pull away. Despite Keaghan Wolfe’s standout double-double performance, the high-pressure defense from Alexander proved to be too much for the Marauders, who racked up a total of 27 turnovers. The Spartans would stay ahead, defeating Meigs 66-46.

Meigs will end their week on the road at Vinton County to take on the 8-11 Vikings in their last conference game of the season.
