POMEROY, Ohio (WOUB) – The Vinton County Lady Vikings (8-12) traveled on the road to take on the Meigs Lady Marauders (6-15) Thursday night.

The first quarter saw the Vikings struggle early as the team struggled to keep possession of the ball. The Marauders capitalized on these opportunities leading to easy transition buckets. The Marauders ended the quarter leading the Vikings 18-9.

The second quarter was all Vinton County. Vinton County started the quarter trailing 20-11 early before Sophomore Kylee Smith caught fire from the field. Smith was electric as she missed only one shot. The Vikings full-court press created turnovers left and right. The defense and incredible play from Smith ended the half with the Vikings leading the Marauders 27-24.

The third quarter saw both teams trading buckets back and forth. The quarter started with Vinton County’s Mckenna Thompson taking a tough mid-range bucket. Meigs was able to get to the line at well cutting down on the deficit slowly. Meigs Keaghan Wolfe hit an incredible contested three cutting the lead to 40-39 to end the quarter.

The fourth quarter started with the Lady Vikings going on a scoring 6-2 run. After a timeout to stop the momentum, the Marauders answered back with two steals leading to easy buckets cutting the lead back to two points. The Vikings would add some points with some free throws to slow the clock. Then, with 40 seconds left in the game, Marauders Maggie Musser hit a tough three to bring the game within three. Sadly, her clutch three wasn’t enough as the Vikings held on to win 52-47.

The Lady Vikings will play their season finale on the road against the Jackson Ironladies(19-2) at 5:30 on Saturday.
