JulieBelle Ash, a former Athens, Ohio resident and teacher who now resides in Colorado will be visiting OVMod with her book SPLASH: I Love being a Raindrop. There will be interactive read-alouds at 11:30 & 2:30, and special water and bubble related activities throughout the day.

The WOUB Learning Lab will be sponsoring admissions for the entire day, making museum visits and this special author visit available to all for the entire day, 10 am to 4 pm.

Ready for Check Out!

New items are being added daily. Most recently, we updated our Dash robots. These brand new robots are in great working order. We’d love to come out and demo them with your class if you are nervous about using them without some practice. We have many other items for teachers to check out. If you haven’t borrowed from us before, feel free to email and we can help you figure out which things might work best for your class and the best ways we can get them to you.

Our Ohio High School Documentary Film Festival

5th Season Begins

WOUB Learning Lab is gearing up for our fifth year of the Our Ohio High School Documentary Film Festival Professionals from WOUB Public Media and Scripps College of Communication at Ohio University are ready to support you if you have a class that is interested in participating. Last year we worked with three schools; Alexander High School in Albany, Nelsonville-York High School in Nelsonville, and Southern Meigs High School in Racine. Our festival is designed to teach students key elements of storytelling, have them look at how their community has influenced them, and learn how to tell the stories of our region that they feel are important. We work with all types of classes (media, English, etc.) and are very interested in adding more schools to the festival. Excerpts from last year’s winning films are being aired on WOUB - HD Channel 20.1 and Channel 44.1 between 6:25 and 6:30 starting September 9th. Full films can be found here. WETA produces many great educational Television shows such as programs from Ken Burns, Henry Louis Gates Jr. and many many more. To go along with these programs, they have a vast collection of educational resources. Class Chat is WETA’s educational newsletter which gathers resources for all these shows into one resource for educators. Check it out, and feel free to sign up to get it sent to you.
